I am a Senior Executive, Client Services at WilsonCTS. I’ve worked for the company for seven years after joining in 2011. I am based in Toronto, Canada.

I started working in the talent acquisition industry after working for a magazine...

My first job out of school was as a Project Manager for a magazine called Career Options that was distributed to universities and colleges across Canada. A large part of the role entailed selling advertising space to employers who wanted to attract new graduates into their organizations. I realized then that my passion was for talent acquisition services. After that, I transitioned into a division of Randstad, where I consulted with clients on their needs in recruitment advertising, employer branding and recruitment process outsourcing (RPO) services across Canada. I was later headhunted by WilsonCTS (which was called Head2Head back then).

On a typical day at WilsonCTS I speak with current and prospective clients to help them understand how they can optimize their recruitment and HR practices. This may include a mixture of cold calling, networking, organising meetings, creating presentations, and replying to requests for proposals, while overseeing a roster of between 40 and 50 active client vacancies. A large part of my job also involves “firefighting” - which is basically dealing with ad hoc client and candidate challenges that spring up on a daily basis.

In a market that’s saturated with recruitment firms, I pride myself on providing an unparalleled level of service to my clients. When they come to us for their urgent recruitment needs, they’ll consistently receive white-glove service including quality candidates, market intel, and consultative advice.  I believe this is what truly sets WilsonCTS apart from our competitors.

The favourite part of my job is...

What I love most about my job at WilsonCTS is the ability to help clients achieve their recruitment and talent management goals, and creating mutually rewarding, long standing relationships where none previously existed. Receiving a referral - whether for a client or candidate - is truly rewarding as it shows that the referee is happy with our services and entrusts me enough to refer someone else.

My work pattern is varied. I’m not chained to a desk in an office...

I work in the office three days a week, and two days a week from home. I’m also on the road quite a bit travelling to see clients at their offices for coffee/lunch. I believe this is an ideal blend that provides variety to my day. I’m able to collaborate in-person with the recruitment team while I’m in the office, and I’m able to focus on business development and proposals while I’m offsite. Plus, I have a fluffy six-pound executive assistant to keep me company at home!

WilsonCTS is part of the WilsonHCG family and has offices all over the world so we have plenty of ways of collaborating with colleagues...

We have quite a few tools that foster collaboration regardless of where someone is located. Besides the typical phone and email mediums, video conferencing is useful as it allows you to put a face to the name. If/when you get to meet that colleague in person, it definitely allows for faster recognition!

If you’re considering joining me at WilsonCTS, I would say… do it!

At WilsonCTS, you pretty much run your own business within the business. Since our success (and ultimately our compensation!) is tied to how many roles we bring in and fill for clients,  we will get out what we put in. That’s not to say one has to work 100-hour weeks to succeed, but it IS all about working smart. As a wise person once told me, “Become the best that you can be, so that no one can afford to ignore you.” That’s the best advice I can provide to anyone, regardless of where they work!
