We’ve been speaking to Robert Smithto find out what the role of Recruitment Consultant at WilsonCTS entails. Robert is based in Toronto, Ontario Canada and joined the company in 2012.
Describe a typical day? How do you help clients?
On any given day I work with some of the best companies across Canada to help them identify top talent for some of the toughest roles they have to fill. Through sourcing, direct head hunting, pipelining and creating a great network of peers I am able to connect top employers with top talent in their industry.
Why did you decide to work for WilsonCTS?
After completing a postgraduate certificate in human resources, I was lucky enough to start my career with WilsonCTS and pursue my passion for recruitment. I have been with the company for six years now, moving up the ranks from a Consultant Care Specialist to one of the first Recruitment Consultants based out of Toronto and now a Recruitment Team Lead. The main reason I joined WilsonCTS and why I am still here today is simply down to the culture and the people. A lot of companies talk about how great their culture and people are but here at WilsonCTS it is in our DNA and we live and breathe it every day.
What’s the favourite part of your job?
I like recruitment because I like to help people. There is no better feeling than when your hard work pays off. Finding that right fit is always a challenge and takes a lot of work, but when that match is made, everybody wins. You're helping the candidate with their career in more ways than one and you're helping your client fill a strategic position which in turn allows them to grow.
Do you work remotely? If yes, what are the benefits?
I work from home two days per week which is fantastic as my commute to the office takes over an hour. I have two daughters at home both under the age of two and half years old so working from home allows me to have a great work/life balance. It means that I can have breakfast with them and get them ready for the day. It also gives me a few extra hours in the evening for play time before bath and bed. Those few extra hours a week with the family are priceless.
How do you collaborate with your colleagues?
WilsonCTS makes it very easy to connect and collaborate with with our peers and colleagues across the globe. Through systems such as Fuze, Workday, Workable and MeetUp, we are literally only a click away to connecting with anyone in the organization. Also, we have monthly company calls in which the entire company joins to talk about our success and also future plans.
How did you get into talent acquisition?
I completed a postgraduate degree in Human Resource Management and found myself drawn towards the recruitment/talent acquisition courses. I pursued that passion and completed an internship with a recruitment focus, I then landed a position with WilsonCTS and have never looked back.
